Qingming Festival is at the turn of mid-spring and late spring. It is said that after Dayu's flood control, people used the word "Qingming" to celebrate that the flood had been removed and the world was at peace. At this time, spring is warm and the flowers are blooming, everything is reviving, the sky is clear and bright, making it the perfect season for spring outings. Since the Qingming Festival and the Cold Food Festival are close to each other on the calendar, they gradually merged into one. "Cold Food" thus became another name for Qingming, as well as one of its customs—abstaining from fire and eating only cold dishes on this day.

清明節(jié)在仲春與暮春之交。相傳大禹治水后，人們就用“清明”之語慶賀水患已除，天下太平。此時春暖花開，萬物復(fù)蘇，天清地明，正是春游踏青的好時節(jié)。由于清明節(jié)與寒食節(jié)的日子接近，漸漸地，兩者合二為一，寒食既是清明的別稱，也是清明節(jié)習(xí)俗之一——清明之日不動煙火，只吃涼的食品。

Around the time of the Qingming Festival, fresh-water snails become particularly plump and flavorful, making it the ideal occasion to enjoy them. Fried fresh-water snails are one of the cherished traditional dishes during the Qingming Festival in Kunming. You can savor them by stir-frying with their shells intact alongside scallions, ginger, soy sauce, cooking wine, sugar, and other seasonings. Alternatively, you can boil them first, then carefully remove the snail meat for further preparation, it can be tossed in a salad, pickled, marinated, or quick-fried, all of which bring out its unique taste.
